TYPE 21
CAMERA LANYARD, COMPACT

Type 21 is a simple yet versatile lanyard for a compact camera.  In the longest configuration, it can be worn across the shoulder. The user can tie a knot at the end to adjust the length and use it as a lanyard. It can also be wrapped around the wrist to be worn as a wrist strap. Any of these configuration should ultimately make it easier for you to raise the camera to your eyes - or, keep it at your hip, to capture that decisive moment with an unassuming, casual footprint.

Rethinking the Compact Camera Carry

While there are many simple wrist straps available for compact cameras, I set out to make something that is more calibrated for a photographer that is dedicated about keeping it casual.  This lead to the strap no longer being a wrist strap, but something longer that can be worn at all times, so that the camera is there and ready even for unexpected turn of events.  With kentique camera straps, the focus is on providing a strap that is there to secure the camera the entire time, but gets out of your way and out of your mind when the moment comes, so you can focus on the photographic process.

Simple and Primitive Versatility

While compact cameras may be small, the style of shooting requires the carry method to be versatile to the needs of the user and the situation. The strap can be adjusted and transformed into various modes, by intuitive and primitive methods. Through tying knots to adjust the length or wrapping the strap around the wrist, the strap is able to adapt to various situations without the use of complex hardware mechanisms and keeping an unassuming footprint vital to the casual shooter.

Patina that Matches the Camera

I designed the strap so that it is a pleasure to wear and use on a daily basis, for a very long time. The simple one piece leather assembled with minimum components also ensures that the strap will stand to long and heavy use. The cord is a thick nautical cord wrapped around the stainless bolts to prevent breakage from accidental movement. The assembly bolts are very durable and made of corrosion-resistant hardware, and could be made to match the metal and the finish of the camera you choose to use: blackened stainless, blackened brass, or bare stainless. The blackening finish is not a paint finish but an oxidized finish that is typically used on firearms. Both the leather and the hardware will develop a patina and character the more often and the longer it is used, and that patina will match the camera.

Handcrafted in California

Because the strap is designed and made for longevity, each strap is handcrafted in the California studio so that I can ensure that each strap is finished to a high and demanding quality worthy of many years of use. While the Type 21 strap is designed with minimum components, there are further considerations such as the protector tab to prevent the stainless steel hardware from rubbing against the camera.

*Aniline dyed hides used in the straps and wallets, have a tendency to stain vegetable tanned leather and other porous materials such as paper and untreated wood under prolonged contact, especially when it is new. Please be cautious of storing or having the material touch other materials, especially those with lighter colors.
